Privacy Policy

rue is built on a simple principle: your health data belongs to you. We designed the app so that we never have access to your information: there are no rue servers, and anything that syncs between your devices does so through your own private iCloud, which we can't see.

What data rue collects

rue does not collect any personal data. The app stores all information locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This includes:

Period and spotting dates, duration, and flow notes
Daily logs including physical and emotional scores, symptoms, and notes
Cycle history and predictions
Medication tracking entries
Your birth year, if you choose to add it, used only to tailor cycle guidance to your age group
User preferences and settings

None of this data is transmitted to a rue server, because there are no rue servers. Your information lives on your device. If you are signed into iCloud, it also syncs across your own devices through your private iCloud database (Apple's CloudKit), which rue cannot access. You can disable this in your device's iCloud settings. Data may also enter Apple's ecosystem via HealthKit, only if you choose to enable it.

If you add a Rue widget or turn on the Live Activity, a small summary (your current phase and days until your next period) is shared with the widget on your device through an iOS App Group so it can display. This summary never leaves your device. You choose whether the Live Activity shows details on your lock screen, and you can remove widgets or turn the Live Activity off at any time.

Analytics and crash reporting

rue does not use third-party analytics services. We do not use Firebase, Amplitude, Mixpanel, Segment, or any similar tools. We have no visibility into how you use the app.

If you opt in to Apple's standard crash reporting through your iOS privacy settings, Apple may share anonymized crash data with us to help fix bugs. This is controlled entirely by your iOS settings and does not include any of your health data.

Apple HealthKit

rue offers optional integration with Apple HealthKit. If you enable this:

Rue can read and write menstrual cycle data to Apple Health
You control exactly what is shared via the standard iOS permissions dialog
You can revoke access at any time in Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices

Rue will never use HealthKit data for advertising or sell it to data brokers. HealthKit data is used exclusively to display information within the app.

rue+ subscriptions

Purchases of rue+ are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Rue does not store or have access to your payment information. Apple's privacy policy governs transaction data.

The only record rue keeps of your subscription status is a flag stored locally on your device indicating whether you have an active subscription.

Advertising

rue contains no advertising and never will. We do not use advertising SDKs, do not participate in ad networks, and have no commercial relationship with any advertising company.

Data sharing and sales

Rue does not sell, rent, license, or share your data with any third party, full stop. There is no data to share: it lives on your phone.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page and notify users through an in-app message where appropriate.
